Ferrochrome (FeCr) is a ferroalloy of chromium and iron used primarily in the production of stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant alloys. It serves as a key source of chromium to enhance hardness, wear resistance, and oxidation resistance in steels. High carbon ferrochrome (typically 6–8% carbon) is commonly used in standard stainless and alloy steel production, while low carbon grades. Ranging from 0.015% to 0.15% carbon are essential for applications requiring precise carbon control, such as specialty steels, superalloys, and non-sparking tools. A low silicon variant of high carbon FeCr is also available for cleaner melts.
